The Supreme Court has set aside the Appeal court judgments that nullified the election of Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom state and his counterpart governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state. A seven-man panel led by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed held that Emmanuel and Ikpeazu were duly elected as Governors of their states.
The Apex Court however reserved reasons for the judgment till February 15 and 26 respectively. The Supreme Court premises was turned into a market square by supporters who came to witness the judgment in the appeals filed by the governors. While Appeal court in Abuja had nullified the Akwa Ibom State governorship election on December 18, 2015, that of Abia was nullified on December 31, 2015 by the Appeal court in Owerri Division.
