To move on to the 2016 budget, there is need first review the performance of the 2015 appropriations. The review and the defence of the 2016 budget for the Ministry of Power, Works And Housing is currently on going and the Minister in charge Babatunde Fashola has been explaining to member how the 2015 budget was spent despite taking office not too long ago.
The then Ministry of Work had been appropriated about 44.985 billion according to the Minister and for most of the contracts, contractors were paid in full. Seeing most of the contracts listed were not completed even with full payment, some members of the Committee on Works were wondering why only about ten percent of those projects were up to date.
This Minister in explaining is saying that the hundred percent is not actually for the completion of these projects as half of that amount is for consultancy. The 2016 budget for the ministry stands at about 285,308 billion naira and the minister is advising that rather than give several contractors these contract , only one should be given for easy monitoring and delivery.
