FG READY TO STEP UP EFFORTS TO CURB SPREAD

The Federal Government has expressed readiness to step up efforts to end mother – child HIV transmission. The Executive Director under Secretary – General of United Nations, Michel Sidibe made the disclosure after a closed door meeting with acting President Yemi Osinbajo at the Presidential Villa.

According to the World Health Organisation, 58 thousands cases of HIV/AIDS transmission in Nigeria occur during the birth of new babies. The Federal Government is taking steps to stem the tide of the spread of the disease.

Briefing journalists after a closed session with acting President Osinbajo, the Executive Director under Secretary General of United Nations and the Director General of National Agency for Aids Control say Nigeria is willing to tackle the spread of HIV/AIDS headlong.
