Issues of security in the North East and the intervention fund for the Police is taking center stage at the ongoing budget defence of the police at the House of Representatives. Many of the ongoing projects needs to be completed and the Committee is saying that without putting the cart before the horse, some of the ongoing projects that deserve completion have not been captured in the proposal.
The Police intervention fund which is agreed to be deplicting needs to be beefed up and this is because the north east has been devasted and with successes being recorded in the fight against insurgency, many of the police infrastructures like stations, barracks, operational car are no longer available. The force as it is now is the hub of safety and security in the Country.
Previously Nigeria never experienced the level of insurgency it currently going through and may not have been fully prepared, now the ministry is saying funds will be needed for such eventualities. The force seems like always forgotten when chunks of money are allocated making the Inspector General appeal for more.
