Women and gender issues have continued to present a case for debate anywhere in the world and Nigeria’s work towards addressing some of these issues is gaining some recognition. One of those appreciating Nigeria’s efforts is the British government whose Minister of State Elaine Joyce reported good progress to the Speaker of the House Representatives Yakubu Dogara.
The two leaders also met on common ground when sharing their thoughts on the ripple effects of the insurgency in the north east.
They are saying that more cooperation must be etched out if the suffering been experienced by the internally displaced persons especially children is to be brought to an end. There is nowhere in the world where domestic violence is not been reported even in the most advanced countries.
Every country however tries to deal with these issues with appropriate legislations within the realm of international best practices. Nigeria is not left out in seeking ways of, if not stopping it, at least reducing it to the barest minimum. And so when the British government says Nigeria has made tremendous efforts, the legislature can then beat its chest.
