Women in Plateau seem set for a showdown if their affairs are not properly captured in the State’s 2016 budget. Considered as weak and vulnerable, the women have been asking the State Government to take a serious look at their plight as the House deliberates on the budget. Our plateau state correspondent Igimoh Ikeakha reports that the sum of Two hundred and Nineteen million seven hundred thousand naira is been budgeted for the Women affairs ministry in the State.
Women in Plateau state are asking for a budget that takes into cognizance their peculiar needs. Claiming to be the weaker and vulnerable ones, they are saying that if the budget does not take them into consideration, their plight in the state could be worsened due to the incessant communal crises in the state that has made many of them either widows or bread winners of their families.
This year, the Ministry for Women affairs and social development which oversees and work towards addressing the collective need of the vulnerable in the society is been allocated the sum of two hundred and nineteen million seven hundred thousand naira. According to the Governor the budgetary allocation is to address women’s needs as well as empower them for higher productivity.
