Banking transactions in Nigeria no doubt comes with its up and downs. Since the introduction of stamp duty by the Central Bank on bank customers which it says is to explore alternative avenues for revamping the economy, some Nigerians have been uncomfortable. Now many are calling for a one day protest against banks to push home their point.
Over a month ago, the Central Bank of Nigeria introduced stamp duty on bank customers, in order to boost it’s revenue base and explore revenue opportunities in the non oil sector.
Since the introduction of excessive charging, divergent views have been going on, and people are calling for one day of no banking in protest on March 1st.
Many residents in the Federal Capital Territory are claiming that charging excessively on transaction will bring untold hardship on the masses while some others are thinking it will bring about a crash in the Nation’s economy.
