Nigerian is losing about 2.8 billion dollars yearly to importation of Information Communication Technology hardware and services into the country. Minister of Communications, Adebayo Shittu has been disclosing this much in Abuja at a stakeholders’ compliance workshop on the procurement of indigenous ICT products and services by MDAs.
The organizers of this event believe that the major challenge facing Nigeria’s ICT sector is the apathy towards patronizing indigenous products and services among Nigerians. To reverse the trend, the officials say efforts are on to implement and enforce compliance of the guidelines for local content policy for the sector.
The authorities are also set to embark on awareness creation on patronage of the nation’s ICT products and also mandate various MDAs to use made in Nigeria ICT products and services.
