The Federal Government now has another weapon as the fight against insurgency continues in the North East of Nigeria and to also protect the nation’s borders from external infiltration. Interior minister, Abdulrahman Dambazzau, says the development of the canine capacity by the Nigerian Police Force is a game changer in the fight against terror and other criminal activities.

This is a demonstration put up by the force animal branch of the Nigerian Police Force to project its readiness to be the game changer in the fight against terror and other criminal activities including cross border infiltration. For the Interior Minister, the opening of an ultra modern dog breeding centre and the inauguration of mounted troops by the police is a welcome development both for the Police and the Nation’s internal security especially in the detection of suicide bombers and improvised explosives devices.

Inspector General of Police in his remarks says the breeding centre which had long been abandoned is a step to continue efforts to professionalise the force. He says officers in the centre have received training from outside the shores of Nigeria while those in the mounted troops division have been trained by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police.
