Nigeria’s development will be a mirage if the growth that was evident in the last few years continues to produce unproductive jobs like it did especially in transformative tertiary sectors like the services and retail sector. The World Bank says more productive jobs is needed to ensure that the nation pulls more people out of poverty like other nations who have witnessed same growth.
More and more productive jobs, that the buzz word from the world bank in its report on jobs, competitiveness and skills in Nigeria. The presenter of the report, Kathleen Beegle, says jobs are not enough but productive jobs that will pull more Nigerians out of poverty.
Speaking to the Nigerian World Bank knowledge forum, she says that though more Nigerians are getting jobs but that those jobs are in sectors that are not productive.
