The Governorship Candidate of All Progressive Congress, Timipre Sylva is asking the Bayelsa State election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja to give an order allowing him to inspect election materials used for the conduct of election in the state. In a motion on notice filed and argued by his Counsel, Sebastian Hon, Sylva is urging the tribunal to compel INEC to allow him inspect the materials used for the election. The petitioner, Timipre Sylva is challenging the declaration of Governor Seriake Dickson winner of the Governorship election in the State.
His grounds are that the election was marred by violence and electoral irregularities and that the tribunal should nullify the election that brought Dickson to power. He told the tribunal that contrary to the counter affidavit filed by the respondent, his application is specific on purpose and in line with the provision of section 151 of the electoral act 2010.
The 37 items Sylva wants to inspect include all ballot papers used for the election, records of accreditation as was captured by the Card Reader, INEC results sheets amongst others. After hearing the arguments from both sides, the chairman of the Tribunal, Justice Kazeem Alogba gave April 11 for ruling on whether or not to allow the inspection of the materials.
