Residents of Plateau state are having divergent views on the recent ban by the Police on black marketer’s hawking petrol on the streets. Many believe that the fuel scarcity should be done away with before the ban while others are saying that the black marketers are the reason for the scarcity that has lingered for so long. Since the recent fuel scarcity hit the nation many Nigerians have been feeling the impact as a lack of the products affects virtually every aspect of life. But there are some for whom the misgiving is profiting.
Taking advantage of the scarcity, black marketers take to the streets selling petrol in Jerry cans for as much as twice the official pump price. They definitely have their patron who would rather buy and move on. But now, the state Police is saying no and us placing a ban on the hawking of petrol in the state. According the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abuh Emmanuel, the ban on selling of fuel in gallons is becoming necessary due to its sabotaging and security consequences.
