The Federal Government is assuring Nigerians that it would maximize the opportunities that the Kashimbilla dam located in Taraba state would create on completion. Minister for water resources Suleiman Adamu has been giving this assurance on his assessment tour to the Kashimbilla dam in a bid to ascertain the level of completion and the socio-economic importance of the dam to Nigeria.

The Kashimbilla dam located between the towns of Kashimbilla and Gamobo on River Katsina-Ala in Takum local government area of Taraba State is been constructed to check the threats of flooding from the structural weak volcanic Lake Nyos located in the high Bamenda Plateau in Cameroun. The structural instability of the lake is of immense threat to Nigeria as a result of the constant erosion of the embarkment and the increasing buildup of carbon dioxide gas from beneath the lake bed.

This disaster if not checked will affect the states of Taraba, Benue, Cross River, Kogi and Delta. The work which began in 2010 has been facing enormous challenges but this time the federal and state governments are committed to completing the dam that will be of immense benefit to the State and Country.
