SENATE SEEKS ESTABLISHMENT OF NATIONAL LABOUR COUNCIL

A bill for an act to establish the National Commission for conciliation and arbitration, National Labour Council, Office of the Registrar of Trade Unions is been canvassed at the Senate. The bill which seeks to administer the provision of Labour laws in Nigeria is sponsored by Bauchi North Senator Suleiman Nazif.

Faulty existing relationship between employers and employee in the country is the main thrust of the bill as currently trade disputes in the country are governed by the provision of trade dispute act is explained by the sponsor. The objective of the bill according to him is to create Labour institutions that are independent and can administer Labour laws in Nigeria as it affects freedom of association.
