FG REITERATES COMMITMENT TO CONSUMERS RIGHTS

Consumer’s participation is key in the fixing of tariffs in the power sector and any disco cannot fix prices without the consent of consumers within its jurisdiction. The federal government also says it is the duty of all discos to provide meters for their customers and this according to the minister of power, works and housing will be done within a stipulated timeline. The Minister of Power, Works and Housing while welcoming the Director General of the Consumer Protection Council to his office says the meeting with the council is a very important one for the development of the power, works and housing sector.

He says the Federal Government will do all within its powers to protect consumer rights within the sector, he added that the fixing of tariffs in the sector by any disco cannot go ahead without consumer participation. On the housing front, the Minister says the Federal Government will ensure that houses meet the requisite safety and quality standards adding that when houses are built they should remain built and not be collapsing on a regular basis as it currently happens.
