JUDGE DISQUALIFIES SELF FROM EX-INTERIOR MINISTER, MORO’S CASE

Justice Anwuli Chikere of the Federal High Court in Abuja is disqualifying herself from presiding over the case of former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro who is facing trial on alleged complicity in a 676 million naira job scam. Justice Chikere who made this known to counsels in the suit said she is returning the case file to Chief Judge of the Court, Justice Ibrahim Auta for reassignment.

The Ex-Minister, Abba Moro, former Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Interior, Anastasia Daniel-Nwobia, and their fellow accused persons appear in court on Wednesday to answer charges brought against them by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. EFCC alleges that the defendants defrauded 676,675 Nigerian applicants of Six Hundred and Seventy Six Million, Six Hundred and Seventy Five Thousand Naira.

According to the commission, each of the applicants were charged N1,000 for participating in the ill-fated Immigration recruitment exercise. At the resumed hearing of the case, the presiding judge, Justice Anwuli Chikere informed the parties that she is returning the case file to be reassigned to another judge but however failed to give any reasons. Defence counsels who are expressing surprise at the new development say they are ready to face the trial.
