Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal in Abuja, Danladi Umar will on Thursday, April 28 decide whether or not to disqualify himself from presiding the ongoing trial of Senate President Bukola Saraki on allegations of false assets declaration.

The decision was reached on Wednesday after parties argued on a motion filed by Saraki’s counsel alleging that the Umar is being investigated for corruption and should disqualify himself from hearing the suit.

The trial of the embattled Senate President on Wednesday suffered another setback after he alleged that the CCT chairman, Danladi Umar lacked moral justification to preside over his case. In a motion on notice argued by his Counsel, Saraki claimed that Umar is under investigation by the EFCC, the same agency he alleged is responsible for the charges against him.

Hence he is insisting that the chairman is bound to favour the prosecution and will deny him fair hearing on the criminal case. He therefore requested the chairman to honorably withdraw himself from further participation in the trial in the interest of justice.
