The Bayelsa State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Abuja is setting May 4 date to commence hearing the testimonies of petitioner’s witnesses against the election of Seriake Dickson as Governor of the state. A three-man panel led by Justice Kazeem Alogba fixed the date after the petitioner’s witnesses failed to testify on Tuesday due to errors on the pagination of their proof of evidence.

The petitioner and governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress, Timipre Sylva is challenging the re-election of Governor Seriake Dickson on the ground that the election was marred by violence and electoral irregularities. Hearing on the petition was stalled on Tuesday due to the inability of Sylva’s counsel to properly arrange their witness’s proof of evidence before they could be allowed to testify.

The tribunal Chairman consequently adjourned till May 4 to enable petitioner’s counsel to sort out the issues with the mixed up in their witness written statement. Both petitioner and his counsel reacted to the development at the end of the tribunal sitting.
