Nigeria’s quest to diversify her economy no doubt keeps getting boosts from every quarter, an additional voice is been added at the Senate in form of a bill to provide for the establishment of an agriculture credit scheme. Sponsored by Abia North Senatorial Representative, Mao Ohuabunwa, the bill intends to advise on ways of not just producing more food, but also create jobs for as many who may want to go into agriculture through loans and funds.

Peasant farmers held forte in communities with subsistent agricultural activities in time past. With the coming of the oil revolution, most farmers are ditching their farming implements for more lucrative jobs. With a bill like this passed into law credit facilities can now include farmer who don’t have money but are willing to go into farming on a small scale.
