EFCC witness, Michael Wetkas testifying against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki is insisting that the accused failed to declare his property located at no. 15 Mcdonald street Ikoyi, Lagos in his assets declaration form. Wetkas being cross-examined by Saraki’s counsel, Paul Erokoro confirmed his earlier evidence that the Senate president made an anticipatory assets declaration before becoming Kwara State Governor in 2003.

Saraki accompanied by his entourage appeared at the Code of Conduct Tribunal on Tuesday for the hearing on the alleged false assets declaration charges instituted against him by the federal government. When the day’s business started, the Federal Government’s Lawyer, Rotimi Jacobs raised an objection against different counsels in Saraki’s team of lawyers cross-examining the prosecution witness.

But in a ruling, the tribunal chairman, Danladi Umar agreed with Defence Counsel that any of Saraki’s lawyers can cross-examine the prosecution witness in order to accord the defendant a right of fair hearing. After the chairman overruled Jacobs’s objection, one of Defence Counsels, Paul Erokoro continued cross-examination of the EFCC witness, Michael Wetkas. During the cross-examination, Wetkas was made to read a copy of assets declaration form by Saraki which confirms that the Senate President worth over 1.5 billion before he became a Governor.
