President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki is advocating for the strengthening of the powers of the Economic Community of West African States Parliament to enable it foster closer integration of the sub-region. Saraki has been expressing this view at the occasion marking the convening of the first ordinary session of the ECOWAS Parliament in Abuja.

Members of the ECOWAS Parliament are here to deliberate on issues hampering the economic and political development of the sub-region. President of the Senate is insisting that if the parliament is not given enough powers to perform, the dreams of greater integration of the member states may not be achieved.

He believes that this may be responsible for the lack of adequate cohesion in the fight against terrorism, cross border crimes, their trade agreements and protocols.
