GOVERNORSHIP ELECTIONS: VIOLENCE IS A MAJOR CONCERN – INEC

The civil society situation room on elections in Nigeria is monitoring events as the Edo and Ondo State Governorship elections gradually draws near and will be working with all stakeholders to achieve a free, fair and credible elections. The situation room is also collaborating with the Independent National Electoral Commission to ensure that voter education is given more priority.

The Edo and Ondo State Governorship elections are gradually drawing near and as part of efforts aimed at ensuring free, fair and credible elections, the civil society and INEC situation room has again convened to seek ways to ensure that the process goes ahead without rancour.

Speaking on some of the issues that will shape the elections, national commissioner for the Independent National Electoral Commission, Amina Zakari, disclosed that violence is a major concern. She however expresses her hope that communities will not allow people of questionable characters to use their areas as launching pad to disrupt elections.
