STAKE HOLDER STRATEGISE ON HOW TO IMPROVE QUALITY OF WATER

As part of efforts aimed at realising the goal of universal access to safe drinking water, The Federal Government says managing water requires appropriate governance arrangement that moves consideration of water from the margins of the government to the center of the society.

Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources Rabi Jimeta made this known at the 23rd Regular meeting of the National council on water resources in Abuja. She says policies, regulation and institution will be put in place to support sustainable management resources. Shortage of water and lack of access to potable water kill over 12 million people worldwide annually, millions are in bad health and trapped in poverty as much of their energy and time are wasted in the quest for clean water.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Water Resources access to drinking water, sanitation and hygiene is critical for survival, development and well being. While adding that there is need for adequately funded infrastructure project to protect water resources and ensure sustainable development.
