In 2008, about ninety children died from taking counterfeited teething syrup before it was discovered. Trying to address this and many more fake products related issue has been a worry for the food and drug administrations.

This worry is necessitating a public hearing by the Committee on health on the need to amendment of the laws guiding the sector so as to enact stronger punitive measures for offenders.

The one day public hearing is to meet with various stakeholders in the sector to find an avenue to amend and enact stronger laws that will save more lives and punish peddlers of fake products especially drugs.
