A bill for an act to establish the Maritime University of Nigeria did not see the light of day at the days’ Senate plenary. Sponsored by James Manager from Delta State, the bill is seeking to establish the University in Okerenkoko in delta state for the purposed of reducing over dependent on foreign institutions for maritime training.
Although a ground breaking has been done the university still does not have any legislative backing as reported by our correspondent Jamil Afegbua.
The administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan before exiting office committed to establishing a University that will help train Nigerians on Maritime courses to forestall the influx of foreign experts who come to take up the available jobs in that sectors.
