The Independent National Electoral Commission has issued a certificate of return to Uchechukwu Ogah as the Abia State Governor elect. The Commission’s National Commissioner in charge of the South East, Lawrence Nwuruku confirms that the commission issued the certificate in response to a Court order directing that the commission do so with immediate effect.
Uchechukwu Ogah had earlier approached an FCT High Court asking for his declaration as the Governor elect owing to discrepancies in the Tax Certificate of former Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu. The INEC Commissioner also adds that only a higher Court can change the status quo.
He also adds that the commission has no indication that former Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu filed a stay of execution of the order.
