The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria HURIWA has called on the Federal Government to check the spate sectarian violence in the country. The group is reacting the recent killing of a female preacher Eunice Elisah in the Kubwa area of the FCT. It says the attack is against Christianity in totality as more than one Christian over the last six months have been gruesomely murdered calling for the death penalty as punishment against such crimes.
A few months ago, a market woman and a Christian was murdered for what the killers termed an abuse of Islam. Following on the heels of that was the murder of a Catholic priest in Makurdi the Benue capital. Recently, a Female Pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God was murdered along the road in Kubwa, a suburb of the FCT while preaching.
These killings by perceived Muslim faithful’s is becoming worrisome and the Rights Group is not just calling on government to act fast to stop these acts but strongly condemning the Police for not doing much to find the killers.
