LUGBE TRANSFORMER EXPLOSION: ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTORS DECRY NERC’S STATEMENT ON ACCIDENT

Investigations by the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company will continue into the transformer explosion at Lugbe Area of Abuja to ascertain what really happened. Spokesman of the Association of Nigerian Electricity Distributors, Sunday Oduntan, says the disco is involved in the process of treatment of those in the hospital but also expresses his disappointment at the statement credited to the acting chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission on the issue.

Most people of Lugbe on airport road in Abuja were on their routine daily activities while others took time to take in the euro 2016 football tournament on the 2nd of this month until an explosion happened reportedly from one of the transformers serving the Tundun Wada axis of the Agwan Tiv area. When the dust settled 6 people reportedly died immediately while reports has it that 3 others have given up the ghost while some are still in receiving treatment in the hospital.

The explosion prompted a visit by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, led by its acting Chairman, Anthony Akah, who reportedly did not get the side of the Abuja DISCO before making a statement on the issue.
