The issue of metering has been a major source of concern for many Nigerians in the power sector with most complaining of an unfair billing system first by the national electric power authority later power holding company of Nigeria and now the 11 electricity distribution companies that took over the liabilities of the government owned entities after privatisation.
The regular refrain from most Nigerians when the issue of metering of electricity supplied is that of crazy billing or bills from not only the liquidated government owned power companies but their successors after complete privatisation of the distribution and generating arms of the Power sector.
With this in mind, the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and its agencies have all been in the forefront of pushing the concept of fair billing but the minister calls for caution in view of what the sector was before privatisation.
