NBA PRESIDENT – ELECT PROMISES MEASURES AGAINST ERRING LAWYERS

The newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association Abubakar Mahmoud says addressing the failure of compliance with the rule of law and continued unethical conduct among lawyers will be a major focus of his leadership. He insists that Independence and financial autonomy of the judiciary is a major step to achieving the goal.

The Senior Advocate of Nigeria and former Attorney General of Kano state disclosed his plans for the bar at a maiden press briefing following his victory at the just concluded NBA General elections. The post election press conference was organised to introduce the 28th President of the Nigerian Bar Association.

It was his first public appearance since his victory at the poll and it presented him the opportunity to reel out the agenda for his administration. Mahmoud expressed worry over what he describes as high level of impunity and increasing failure by some Nigerians to abide by the rule of law.
