The Interfaith Dialogue Forum for Peace has advocated the eradication of cultural practices that undermine the rights of the children, and prevent the girl child from maximizing her potentials.

The group made the call at a workshop on gender and child rights in Abuja.

The interfaith body is training Muslim and Christian women to know their rights for effective gender equality.

Speaking on the theme “Gender and Child Rights” UN Women representative Peter Mancha noted that the workshop would address the challenges of the girl child, adding that there were so many things including some cultural practices stopping girls from maximizing their potentials.

The organizers said the programme was aimed at developing and raising consciousness on women and child’s right and also practical ways of promoting the honour and protection of women in the society.
