The police in Zamfara have denied reports of the kidnapping of four students and two teachers from Government Girls Secondary School in Moriki, Zurmi local government area of the state.
BBC Hausa had reported that gunmen invaded the school on Wednesday night and kidnapped six victims.
But state police spokesperson Muhammad Shehu said the report was not correct as two caterers and three of their children were the ones declared missing after the attack.
“An unidentified number of armed men entered into the school through the back fence with the intent to attack the school and abduct students,” Shehu said in a statement.
He added that security officers “were mobilised to the school, confronted the armed men and stopped them from gaining access to the student hostels forcing them to retreat back to the bush where they come from”.
He said a search and rescue operation team has been dispatched to the surrounding bushes for an extensive bush combing while security has been beefed up in the school and its environment to forestall further happening.
