The convener of #RevolutionNow protest, Mr Omoyele Sowore, on Monday had an altercation with security operatives believed to be officials of the Department of State Services (DSS). The incident happened shortly after his arraignment before Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu of the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Sowore was arraigned along with his co-defendant, Mr Olawale Bakare, by the Federal Government on seven charges bordering on conspiracy to commit treasonable felony and money laundering among others. They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges against them. After taking their plea, Justice Ojukwu admitted the defendants to bail following the request of their counsel. She, however, ordered their remand in DSS custody pending the hearing of the bail application filed by their lawyer.

On his way out of court, Sowore had an interview with journalists during which he condemned his detentionsaying “This is a lawless country.” But the session with reporters was cut short by security operatives who dragged him out of the court premises.

Sowore, while struggling with the security agents, began to chant solidarity songs to his supporters.
