The Nigerian army today buried late Col. Dahiru Chiroma Bako even as his wife is yet to recover from the shock of her husband’s death. The burial which took place at the Maimalari barracks cemetery Maiduguri had in attendance Gov. Babagana umara Zulum, Gen. Tukur Yusuf Buratai and other top functionaries as well family of the late officer.
The late col. Bako died at a military hospital in Maiduguri after sustaining injuries from an ambush by insurgents while on a clearing patrol by the army on Sunday in Damboa. While extoling the virtues of the late Col, Governor Babagana Umara Zulum said the relative peace and stability Borno is enjoying now is attributable to the gallantry of Col. Bako as such, the state and the military will dearly miss his patriotic service to the protection of the territorial integrity of his fatherland, a cause which he died for.
In a statement late Monday, an army spokesman at the operation lafiya dole, Colonel Ado Isa, announced the death of Col. Bako after showing signs of recuperating from the injuries he sustained.
According to the spokesman, the fallen soldier was gallant and was one of the finest war heroes.
The statement further revealed that Col DC Bako always led from the front and was a patriotic Nigerian, who led a patrol to clear Boko Haram Terrorists from Sabon Gari-Wajiroko axis near Damboa. It was in carrying out his duty that the Colonel’s patrol team entered an ambush at about 10 a.m Sunday 20 September 2020. “Under his able leadership, the troops cleared the ambush resulting in the killing of scores of terrorists and recovery of weapons and equipment.
