Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara has continued his call for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the north east region ravaged by insurgency. The Speaker had late last year presented a bill for the establishment of north east development commission which seeks to rebuild the region. The bill is aimed at providing a legal framework that will address the overall developmental challenges of the North East.
Insurgency in the North Eastern of the country has left the region in ruins as lives and properties worth millions of dollars are lost to the activities of Boko Haram. Worse still are the cases of displaced persons who reside in different parts of the country and are willing to return to their native homes. Stakeholders are therefore coming together to proffer solutions on ways to do something concrete to harness the potentials of the region.
The Speaker says aspirations for the establishment of the commission are not far-fetched as the regions poverty level is worse. The North East suffers exceptionally with very little opportunities to push itself out of the problem.
